How to cover a face or a detail in a video

Upload a video, add a region with the plus button and drag the box over whatever has to go: a face, a licence plate, a name on screen. Choose blur, mosaic or a black box, then download the finished video. Nothing is uploaded anywhere; your browser does all the work.

• Keyframes: when the subject moves, drag the box at a different time and the tool glides between the positions. Every move writes a keyframe, shown as a diamond on the timeline.
• Several regions at once: each has its own colour, cover style, strength and keyframes.
• Time bounds: trim a region's range by dragging the edges of its bar on the timeline, so the cover starts and ends exactly where it should.
• Live preview: the mosaic and black boxes show while playing, not only after the export.

Frequently asked questions

Is the covered content really gone from the file?

Yes. The result is re-encoded frame by frame and the pixels under the mosaic, blur or black box are overwritten. The original image is not in the downloaded video, unlike an overlay in a player or a subtitle.

How long does the export take?

About as long as the video itself: it is recorded by playing through in real time so that everything stays in the browser. For an hour-long recording it pays off to trim the needed part first.

What format do I get?

It depends on the browser: usually WebM, MP4 in Safari. If you need another format, run the result through Convert video.
