A higher rate means better sound and a larger file.
The audio is processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. The first run downloads about 32 MB of the computing core, after that everything runs without waiting. Longer files take a few minutes.

How to convert audio to another format
Drop in a recording, or a video, choose the target format and start the conversion. From a video only the audio track is taken; the picture is discarded.
MP3 plays on anything, M4A gives better sound at the same size, WAV and FLAC are lossless. Lossless formats have no bit rate to set, everything is stored.
- Takes MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, Opus and the audio from MP4 and MOV.
- 192 kbit/s is the usual compromise, 320 kbit/s is the maximum for MP3.
- Your browser does the computing, the recording is never sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting to WAV improve the quality?
No. What was lost the first time it was saved as MP3 is gone for good. A lossless format only stops it getting any worse.
Which format suits a podcast or a lecture?
MP3 at 128 kbit/s is enough for speech and keeps the file small. For music, reach for 256 or 320 kbit/s.
Can it pull the audio out of a video?
Yes, upload an MP4 or MOV directly. If all you want is an MP3 from a video, there is a dedicated tool for that too.
