How HEIC to JPG conversion works
HEIC (HEIF, strictly speaking) is the format an iPhone has saved photos in since iOS 11. At the same quality it takes about half the space of a JPG, but Windows, older Androids and plenty of websites cannot open it. Converting to JPG solves that.
Decoding happens in your browser through the libheif library compiled to WebAssembly, so the photos are never uploaded. Each shot is unpacked, re-encoded as a JPG at the quality you choose and offered for download. Several files come back as a ZIP in one click.

Frequently asked questions
Why will HEIC not open on Windows?
Windows needs a paid codec from the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG is the easier route, especially when you are sending the photo on.
Do I lose quality in the conversion?
A little. JPG is a lossy format. At 85% and above the difference is practically invisible, though the file will be larger than the original HEIC.
How do I turn HEIC off on the iPhone itself?
Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. The phone then shoots straight to JPG.
Does it handle Live Photos?
It converts the still frame. The moving part is dropped; a JPG cannot hold it.
