How the wheel works

Colours opposite each other contrast the most, which is what the complementary suggestion gives you. Neighbours on the wheel, the analogous colours, sit calmly together, and a triad three steps apart makes a lively but balanced set. Click any suggestion and it becomes the selected colour, so you can walk around the wheel.

Frequently asked questions

What is each notation for?

HEX and RGB are for screens and CSS, HSL is the one to reach for when you want the same colour lighter or less saturated, and CMYK is the print notation. For print, treat the CMYK value as a starting point rather than gospel.

Why does CMYK from a screen not print exactly?

A screen mixes light, a printer mixes ink, and the two ranges do not fully overlap. Bright greens and deep blues in particular come out duller in print. The exact result depends on the paper and the printing profile.

Do you store the colours I pick?

No. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
