How to record audio in a browser
Press start recording and allow the browser access to your microphone. The ring around the icon responds to the volume, so you can see at once whether the microphone is really hearing you. Recording can be paused and resumed at any point; the clock only runs while it records.
The recording is made on your own computer and never sent anywhere. That matters more here than elsewhere: what gets recorded is a meeting, a lecture or a note nobody else is meant to hear.

- For longer edits use the audio trimmer; the volume tool levels the loudness.
The original format, or MP3
The browser records in a format it knows: Chrome and Firefox in WebM with the Opus codec, Safari in MP4. Both are modern and economical, but older players cannot handle them. That is why MP3 conversion is offered separately. The first conversion downloads the computing core; later ones run without waiting.
Frequently asked questions
Why is nothing being recorded?
Most often the microphone permission is missing. Check the microphone icon in the browser's address bar. On iPhone and iPad, recording only works in Safari.
How long can I record for?
Only the browser's memory limits it. An hour-long recording is no trouble; for considerably longer sessions it is better to record in parts.
Does the recording save itself?
No. Until you download it, it lives only in the open tab. Closing the page deletes it, which is also a privacy protection.
