More about Trim a video

Trim and cut video without installing anything

Need to keep only part of a video, lop off the beginning and the end, or cut a dull passage out of the middle? Drop the file in, mark on the timeline what you are keeping and download the finished MP4. Nothing to install, no account to create, and the video is never sent anywhere — it all runs in your browser.

How to use it

The video appears on the timeline as a single section. Click the timeline to move the playhead; the scissors button (or the S key) splits the video at the playhead into two sections. Select a section you do not need and delete it, and that part is cut out of the result. Drag the edges of a section when you only want to shorten the start or the end. The preview plays the edited version straight away, skipping the parts you cut.

When you are happy, click Export. The sections you kept are joined together and a new MP4 downloads. The encoding happens in the browser, so longer videos take a while.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The video is opened and edited in your browser through WebAssembly. The file never leaves your device.

Which formats can I upload?

Ordinary video such as MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. The output is always MP4, which practically every device and social network can play.

Why does the export take a while?

The sections you kept are re-encoded so they follow on smoothly, and that is demanding work. In the browser it runs on a single thread, so a longer or higher-quality video takes more time. Close any tabs you do not need and let the tool finish.

What if I need several tracks or music?

Then the video editor is the easier tool: it handles multiple tracks, its own audio and clips laid one after another. This tool sticks to one video and a quick trim.
