More about Compare spreadsheets
What changed between two exports
Paste in the old and the new version of the same table. The tool matches them up by a key column and shows what was added, what disappeared and, for changed rows, the exact cell. Download the differences as XLSX.
- The key column is whatever tells you it is the same record: a product code, a company number, an email. Without one, whole rows are compared and a change comes out as one removal plus one addition.
- The header row is left out of the differences and used as the column names in the listing.
- Formulas from the file are compared as calculated, that is, by what you actually see in the cell.
Frequently asked questions
Do the rows have to be in the same order?
No. With a key column, records are matched regardless of order, so shuffled rows are not reported as a change.
What if the key appears twice?
Matching goes one by one, first with first and second with second. Whatever is left over comes out as added or removed.
Can it compare two sheets of the same workbook?
Not directly, we read the first sheet. Save the second sheet separately, or copy and paste it into the second box.
Are the tables sent to a server?
No, the comparison runs in your browser.
