How background removal works
The photo is processed by the U²-Net neural network, which finds the main subject and separates it from the background. The result is a PNG with a transparent background, ready for product shots in a shop, profile pictures or artwork for slides.
The model runs on our server, because in a browser it would be far too slow. The photo is never stored: the server takes it, processes it in memory, sends you the result and throws the data away. No copies, no thumbnails.

Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes, three photos a day with no account. The limit exists because the computation costs server time; Premium raises it to 50 a day.
Do you keep my photos?
No. The photo exists only for as long as the processing takes, in the server's memory. It is never written to disk or into logs.
Can I swap the background for white?
The result is a transparent PNG, so you can put any colour underneath it. For a passport photo the ID photo tool does it in one click.
Why is the cut-out around hair imprecise?
Fine hair is the hardest case in segmentation. A photo with a more contrasting background and even lighting helps.
