How capturing a frame from a video works
Drop the video in, find the exact moment with the slider or the step buttons and save it as an image. The frame is rendered at the full resolution of the video, so a Full HD recording gives you a 1920 × 1080 px picture. The original video stays untouched.
Besides a single frame the tool can produce a series: enter an interval in seconds or a total count and you get a set of images from the whole video in one ZIP. Handy for thumbnails, a storyboard or picking the best shot.

Frequently asked questions
What quality will the frame have?
The resolution of the video, with no downscaling. PNG stores the frame exactly as the browser decoded it; JPG compresses it further. Sharpness, however, is set by the video itself: a shot blurred by motion stays blurred in the picture, so try a frame further on.
Why does the video not load?
The frame is drawn by the player built into the browser, so it only works with videos the browser can play. The most common problem is the HEVC (H.265) codec from iPhones and newer phones, which Firefox and older Chrome cannot decode. Convert the video to MP4 with H.264 first using the video converter, then save the frame.
What is the difference between PNG and JPG?
PNG is lossless and suits text, graphics or further editing. JPG is several times smaller and is plenty for a photo-like still. You set the JPG quality with the slider; 85 to 90 % is the usual compromise.
How many frames can I take at once?
At most 200. The images are held in browser memory before download and more full-resolution PNGs would fill it up. For a long video increase the interval, or enter a count and the tool spreads the frames evenly.
Is the video uploaded to a server?
No. Playback and frame rendering both run in your browser and the video never leaves your computer. There is no processing engine to download either; the tool is ready right away.
