Turning versus flipping
Turning changes the orientation in quarter steps, which is what a badly held camera calls for. Mirroring swaps left and right the way a mirror does, flipping swaps top and bottom. The steps add up, so you can land on exactly the orientation you want. The result downloads as a PNG and nothing is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning cost quality?
Not at 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The pixels are only rearranged, the image stays as sharp as it was and is saved losslessly as a PNG.
Why is the result a PNG when I uploaded a JPG?
PNG keeps the image without loss and handles transparency. If you need a JPG again, run the result through the format converter.
Can I turn it by some other angle?
This tool works in quarter turns, which covers most of what people need. Free rotation by an arbitrary angle is beyond a quick straighten.
