More about Sign PDF

Signing a PDF without a printer

Instead of printing, signing and scanning, you sign straight in the browser. Draw the signature with a mouse, a finger or a pen, or upload a photo of one you made on paper. Then click the spot on the page where it belongs, adjust the size and download the finished document.

The signature is written into the page content itself, not added as an annotation or a comment. An annotation can be deleted or dragged around by anyone with a reader; this cannot, it is drawn into the document like the text around it.

Uploading a signature from paper

Sign with a black pen on white paper and take a photo. The tool removes the white background and crops the signature, so it does not cover the text underneath it in the document. Shoot in daylight with no shadow across the paper and the result comes out clean.

This is not a digital signature

The tool does what printing, signing and scanning does, only without the paper. That kind of signature is normally enough for orders, agreements between people, confirmations and internal approvals.

It is not a qualified electronic signature. That requires a certificate from a trust service provider and is used where the law or an authority explicitly asks for it, typically for filings with public administration.

Frequently asked questions

Is the document uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened and signed right in your browser, the file never leaves your computer. With contracts and personal paperwork that is a meaningful difference from services you have to upload to.

Can I sign several pages at once?

Yes. You choose whether the signature goes on the page you are looking at, on the last page, or on every page. Every page is what you want when initialling a contract.

What if the PDF is locked with a password?

Unlock it first with the remove PDF password tool, then you can sign it.

Can I add a date and place?

Yes, tick the option and fill them in. They are set in small type under the signature, as is customary on documents.

Is the signature saved for next time?

No, it is never stored. Once the page is closed you draw it again, or save the image on your own machine and upload it next time.
