Hide a face, a number plate, an address or any other detail by breaking it into a coarse mosaic. Drop the image in, pick how large the blocks should be and download the result. You can pixelate the whole image or only the area you drag over.

How pixelation works

The image is cut into square blocks and each block is painted the average colour of the pixels inside it. The bigger the block, the coarser the mosaic and the less of the original anyone can make out. To hide a face or text reliably, go for larger blocks. Everything is computed in your browser and the image is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can pixelation be undone?

With a coarse enough mosaic, no: the information is gone for good, which is the whole point. With fine pixelation the shape can still be guessed at, so pick larger blocks when you are hiding something.

Can I cover only part of the image?

Yes. Switch to “One area only” and drag over the spot you want hidden. The rest of the image stays sharp.

Does the rest of the image keep its quality?

Yes. Only the pixelated part changes; the rest is saved unaltered as a PNG.
